Kaylene: VOTE Please!

Was preparing for upcoming collection and I suddenly got really FED up. I had so many ideas but they seemed sooo.... plain. Went to do research and bam! I got really annoyed with myself. Then I remembered we had done something similar previously and customers love the idea that they could be involved in the designing process. Hence, I got excited and selected 3 out of the many designs and I need your vote.

Before you vote, let me tell you more about the each of the design...

click on the image to have a bigger and clearer picture
The LEFT

Its a shirt dress, prolly will go solid colours and its a simple comfy dress, loose fit and has a drawstrings at the hem to make it more interesting. I may heading towards Chambray material because I love the informal feel and overall look to it. Will fall just above knee for easy movement.

The CENTRE

Inspired from a designer I met yesterday, I love how she creates her pieces look so feminine and soft. I wanted to do an off shoulder dress with lace and chiffon, Aiming to go for chiffon and maybe nice vintage chiffon prints. Falls around knee length as this is a modest piece. Suitable for formal funcations and possible that special date you have been planning for.

The RIGHT

Inspired by Indian tranditional sarees, I know it doesnt look any where near it. But the doodling got evolved to this final look. Another soft look dress and using butterfly sleeves or flutter sleeves as focal point. This has to be a soft feminine approach if not the final look will make us look bulky if use the wrong fabric. Knee length as this is suppose to be a modest piece

REMEMBER. This is a plus size dress design and we need to consider that girls must be able to feel comfy and relaxed in the dress.

I need your vote. Minimum 30 votes then I will consider making them into reality and the HIGHEST votes, we will proceed the design first. If you have ideas to add on the design, TELL US! We welcome the suggestions and may consider your suggestion into the final outlook of the dress.

How to vote? In Facebook, comment by mentioning, LEFT, RIGHT or CENTRE as well as suggestions and I will consolidate in a weeks time.

SO come on! Be part of the designing team! You are part of KAYLENE afterall!

Blog: zoom into Japanese PLUS SIZE fashion.

I was recently introuduced to a japanese fashion magazine name La' Farfa by my admin girl Evelyn and I was so surprised to hear that it is actually a plus size magazine for the Japanese. First thought that I had was 'Oh man! ITS ABOUT TIME!!!! Finally a plus size magazine for the Asians!' I borrowed it and wanted to share with you some interesting outfits which I think you may be able to relate to.

First thing I noticed is that japanese fashion is actually very conservative. They cover the arms and wear rather loose cut apparels. Well, if you ask me to compare our fellow plus size girls to the Japanese girls, I think we are on par! Hey we are fashionable too eh? I was smiling and was very pleased with myself and for the customers that our fashion sense is pretty much similar with the Japanese. Boy, KAYLENE did well! We managed to change alot of girls' wardrobe and yes I definitely see more confident plus size girls. Whee~~

But I did notice something which we may be a little weak in. Have you noticed that these girls are wearing TONS of colours and LOADED with a lot prints?

They do go for slightly baggy clothes to pair with their colours bottoms as their focal point. Although I am not a avid fan of loose baggy clothes (i prefer FIT and not tight nor too loose), I thought it is a good start to change our closet choice and I must applaud them for being so adventurous. The bottom line is to have fun with prints, look fabulous and yet comfy to step out of the house!

Like the look they have? Me too! Its really very easy, always pair it with a classic piece if you feel afraid or shy for the first trial! It then dawned on me that hey KAYLENE has similar items too!

Modest dress but in fabulous prints......

Funky Bottoms and that is uber easy to matchy match!

Detailed Blouse that can be paired with a simple bottom...

All in all, The magazine gave me good insights of how plus size japanese girls dress up and BOY, I am so glad that finally there is a good magazine that caters to Asians. Oh! they even teach you how to put on make up (its so usefull as Japanese are like most of us... eh-hem single eyelids like me) DIY hairdos are good too! WOW...

To get hold of this mag is not that easy, you gotta call up Kinokuniya and request for this magazine and then they will order it for you and self collection when it arrives! So hope you girls will be more inspired to doll up as HEY, the plus size girls in JAPAN are 'rockin' it' and we should too!!!

Hey fellow plus size Singaporeans... lets ROCK the plus size scene with some really fab outfits too!!

The Shop had a makeover!

I know this is way overdue but I believe that many of the girls havent had a chance to visit our shop with the new look as yet. So since it is my off day today (not really, heading to run errands later!) I decided to post this up for the girls who hasnt got a chance to visit our shop yet~~

(before the renovation... all stripped out and leaving it bare)

(almost! Have a rough idea how the racks should be placed)

(how can we not include a sofa? It was so necessary!)

(Tadah! The shop is neat and more spacious)

Now many of you girls gave feedback on the new shop, mostly good, some interesting and some intriguing. But most common feedback we had is 'Why renovation? Will it mean that I have to pay more? Why change?'

Well, CHANGE is definitely necessary in order to grow. It applies to every aspect of life. Change in attitude, change in mindset etc. KAYLENE has been serving you girls for the past 5 years and tremendous growth has been shown. Every time we 'grow' or change, we will somehow have hurdles and hiccups on the changes that were made or implemented. But persisting on the change was necessary in order to grow, to serve better and one step forward to be a leader. Renovation was really necessary as we felt that it was time to have a proper identity (with new logo and a corporate colour) and honestly, the previous shop layout is really not exactly a good environment to shop. The shop now is cleaner, classy and elegant, very apt for KAYLENE's image. KAYLENE represents each and every one of you who purchase in our shop and every item you purchase represents you and your lifestyle. It sounds really tacky and far fetched but if you think deeper, it is really all about you as customers and all these are done for you to make you happy!

Now on the question on price is really interesting. We have never increased our price because 'we have been to New York' or 'the renovation cost will be incurred by (customers)' We definitely did made extra efforts to make sure that the pieces are better quality and bring in more unique pieces into the shop. We definitely have lots more to learn and progress as once in a while we still have glitch and hiccups on quality issue. But we try our best and I am very proud to say we try to bring the workmanship problem to the least that we can.

So there, hope you can see our sincere efforts to making you all happy by doing these various projects. It is all necessary for KAYLENE and without a doubt for each and every one of you.

XOXO

Villa Semana.. what a surprise!

* This post is way overdued.. but hey! Better late than never with regards to recommending good deals!

Yeah girls, as you can see from the above picture, I recently won the top prize in a lucky draw! And to my surprise, it was a complimentary stay in Villa Semana in Ubud-Bali! The girlies and myself were pretty burned out from the New York trip ( FFF week 2013 ) Although it seemed like a holiday but it wasnt! IT WAS A VERY intense trip for us as we were literally working every day! And when we got back, there were so much to follow up on and we are really tired out. Honestly,we were so burned out with backlog, new prjects and new challanges, we were desperate to get out for some 'zen out' sessions. The voucher was definitely god sent! my girls squealed with excitement when we found out tt we could FINALLY take a breather!

(Do we look alike? This is my elder sis and yeah, I treated her to Bali for her early birthday present..)

Finally after 2.5 hours flight and a good 1.5 hours on the road, we finally reached our villa! The villa didnt disappoint us. They were awarded 'Certificate of Excellence' in 2013, and I believe 2012 and 2011 for Tripadvisor.com as well! We were so fortunate! The staffs were uber friendly and professional and they spoke good english. We were immediately ushered to our villa without needed to check in at the reception area. In fact, there is no reception area at all! The staffs actually went to our room, prepared some refreshements, light bites and fruits and did our paper work in the villa! WOW! this is what I call top-notch service. Really~ impressive.

It felt good to see my name in the card with the flower arrangements. It made me feel really special.

Kum Pai!! Cheers to friendship and sister-hood! Freshly squeezed orange with passionfruit juice. Yummsy~~
Do I need to say more! Private POOL!

Our breakfast was manificent too! Thinking it was the usual buffet style breakfast, we were initially not too keen in the breakkie. But again, we were pleasantly surprised! The breakfast were all freshly made and BEST part, all are organic. Freshest pick of the day, juiciest fruit they can find! The organic tomatoes tasted sweeter, the bread were fluffier. Slups... oh.. I am already thinking of my fluffy pancakes now...

The owner Jurg was fantastic as well! Told us alot of amazing stories and we had so much fun! ( he lives in Singapore and mind you, he knows much more about Singapore than you think!) He recommended us to eat Babi Goreng (yummilicious!!) and Bebek (duck.. ) whao~ I am drooling again!! During our stay, Jurg told us that he had his engineers to test the quality of the air and water surrounding Villa Semana and results had been very good. He also mentioned that couples who visited Villa Semana has a higher chance of conceiving as the air is very fresh and tons of good ions (honestly, you really need to ask Jurg himself to give you the full details!)

During this really short 2 nights stay, we literally did nothing EXCEPT chatting, spa session, bonding with each other, read books, ate, laughed, hugged, laughed, drank, laughed... okay you got the picture. We enjoyed ourselves...

All in all, the girls concluded that we have really enjoyed ourselves and that we are alot more at peace with our minds and hearts. Yes girls, so do check this place out should you wanna consider Bali as your next holiday destination! I realise that as much as I hate to admit it, we really do need to get out of the city and 'noise' once in a while to tune back our crazy brains back into its proper state.

Their address is Banjar Semana, Desa Singakerta, Ubud, Bali 80571, Indonesia and do read up more on them via tripadvisor! You will be impressed with how many good reviews!
