Blog: Plus Size Initiative Presented by Love Plus Diary and Despoke

Yes! After months of preparation and discussion, our model Priscilla Boh has decided that it is time she wishes to give all the knowledge she has learnt and tips she has gotten to the plus size people in Singapore. In her first inaugural episode, she has teamed up with Desmond Charles from Despoke (its about time yo!) to do a first ever Youtube channel on plus size (anything related) theme in Singapore. They have finally launched it yesterday and we are here to support this lovely duo on this special edition.

Let me tell you more about what KAYLENE knows on Plus Initiative SG:
(Kindly note that these are our humble opinion, should you need more info, kindly look for them directly and they will answer to your queries)

The COLD HARD TRUTH:
Being a plus size is really tough in Asia, with many haters, backlashing and many cynical comments we hear everyday and often we feel very lonely. Sad to say, in order for the plus size to not be 'bullied' in any possible way, they hide at home and seeking fun and fulfilment through the computer. Sometimes they go out but they drape themselves in black and the key idea was to make sure they dress as plain as possible, as 'black' as possible and to even become a invisible being. The more they are less noticed, the less critics and jugdement they get. They begin to like the idea of being a 'ghost' and starts to lose her identity on who she actually was, how talented she is, what incredibly beautiful face she has.

The launch of PLUS INITIATIVE SG:
The idea was simple and that was to gather all plus size both men and women to form a simple support group for one another and to give practical tips to plus size people out there on how to be better for their daily day to day lives! Plus Initiative SG is here to solve all sorts of problems the plus size people out there as much as they could!

Priscilla's FIRST EVER EPISODE:
I have watched both part 1 and 2 and in Priscilla's inaugural episode and together with Despoke, they dived straight into the most commonly asked question and that is how to jazz up an outfit to make it look better. I particularly love the idea of adding a pink blazer and a striking necklace to make the whole outfit pop. For the less 'adventurous' ones, you can always opt for a pastel cardigan and put on a nice crystal earrings. This will kick start your adventure on being creative with your outfit and eventually be seen and heard as well as be RESPECTED by people surrounding you for who you are. The part 2 series is good too! Now the men can get proper tips from a male Fatshionista and get interesting tips! I love the part where special guest Despoke wore a red blazer to pair it with a t-shirt and jeans. And the whole outfit stood out with just one bold acessory! How cool is that?

As a one of the leaders in the plus size industry in Singapore (and soon Asia) I would encourage all of us to support this duo by subscribing to their Youtube channel. You can find them on the following link:

Once again! Welcome  PLUS INITIATIVE SG on board to serving the plus size community! Are you in some ways in a plus size community as well? Are you in some ways doing a project that helps the plus size community as well? Tell us! We will help spread the word to the rest too!

In my next post, I will updating you on why we have been pretty quiet... in actual fact, we are NOT! We have been busier than ever and a couple of REALLY exciting things are happening. They are in forming in shape and I will fill you on them! Have a GREAT GREAT week ahead, it is such a beautiful Wednesday today!

Blog: Bow Down... GabiFresh In Her Awesome New Version of BeyoncĂ©’s “Flawless”

Recently on the (plus size) internet buzz, Gabi Fresh (one of my adored plus size blogger) did a remake of Beyonce's sing 'Flawless' to remind people that everybody is flawless, regardless of size, skin colour and I also believe she meant disabilites, sexuality as well. When I saw the video, I was very touched as she has reminded us that all of us, despite our 'unusual' or 'out of the norm' appearances and character we are flawless and that we deserves to be respected as an unique individual. In one of the interview she commented, even though she is extremely popular in the plus size industry, she still often gets bullied and compared due to the colour of her skin. Yeah, unbelievable huh~

For me, after watching and reading the lyrics, I interpret it as a reminder to myself that even if I am a plus size and not a mother (yet) I am STILL flawless in every single way. I am definitely flawless to Mr Ling (otherwise he wouldnt married me) and for sure flawless in my sister's and mum's eyes and the ones who loves you, and MOST IMPORTANTLY the One up there in the heaven who thinks you are flawless and hence created you. Through Gabi's movement, I am reminded that I deserves to be respected as an individual and not be outcasted just because I am different (in size and in status)

I hope in some ways I can send a gentle reminder that you are
special, unique, God-sent, talented, loving and perfect in almost every possible way...

THANK YOU Gabi Fresh for making such a bold statement, to remind each and everyone one us of our self worth and that #everyBODYisflawless.

Here's how the lyrics goes..

I'm out that H-town coming coming down
I'm coming down, drippin' candy on the ground
H, H-Town, Town, I'm coming down
Coming, coming down, dripping candy on the ground

[Verse 1 Beyonce:]
I know when you were little girls
You dreamt of being in my world
Don't forget it, don't forget it
Respect that, bow down bitches (Crown!)
I took some time to live my life
But don't think I'm just his little wife
Don't get it twisted, get it twisted
This my shit, bow down bitches
Bow down bitches, bow bow down bitches (Crown)
Bow down bitches, bow bow down bitches (Crown)
H-Town vicious
H, H-Town vicious
I'm so crown crown, bow down bitches

I'm out that H, town, coming coming down
I'm coming down, drippin' candy on the ground

H, H-town town
I'm coming down
Coming, coming down
Drippin' candy on the ground

[Verse 2: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie]
We teach girls to shrink themselves
To make themselves smaller
We say to girls,
"You can have ambition
But not too much
You should aim to be successful
But not too successful
Otherwise you will threaten the man."
Because I am female
I am expected to aspire to marriage
I am expected to make my life choices
Always keeping in mind that
Marriage is the most important
Now marriage can be a source of
Joy and love and mutual support
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage
And we don't teach boys the same?
We raise girls to see each other as competitors
Not for jobs or for accomplishments
Which I think can be a good thing
But for the attention of men
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings
In the way that boys are
Feminist: the person who believes in the social
Political, and economic equality of the sexes

[Verse 3 Beyonce:]
You wake up, flawless
Post up, flawless
Ridin' round in it, flawless
Flossin' on that, flawless
This diamond, flawless
My diamond, flawless
This rock, flawless
My rock, flawless
I woke up like this
I woke up like this
We flawless, ladies tell 'em
I woke up like this
I woke up like this
We flawless, ladies tell 'em
Say I look so good tonight
God damn, God damn
Say I look so good tonight
God damn, God damn, God damn

Momma taught me good home training
My Daddy taught me how to love my haters
My sister told me I should speak my mind
My man made me feel so God damn fine, I'm flawless!

[Verse 4 Beyonce:]
You wake up, flawless
Post up, flawless
Riding round in it, flawless
Flossing on that, flawless
This diamond, flawless
My diamond, flawless
This rock, flawless
My rock, flawless
I woke up like this
I woke up like this
We flawless, ladies tell 'em
I woke up like this
I woke up like this
We flawless, ladies tell 'em
Say I look so good tonight
God damn, God damn
Say I look so good tonight
God damn, God damn, God damn
